I could not bare the thought of the publicity of the thing. Of course with these sorts of turn-downs, one always wonders what it would have been like. I have had a lot of turn-downs to my credit for one reason or another. As Edwardo was fond of saying, "Nothing in this world is perfect".
There was a really nice old couple who lived up the hill and around the corner. Their back yard was in the same backyard block as ours. They were in their sixties and at some point he died. She said he passed-on, of cirrhosis of the liver. I asked if he drank and she said no, he would not touch alcohol. I may have said it or maybe not, depending on who she was, "May have just as well, and had a good time of it, since it got him in the end anyway".
The neighbors next us to the east were an old Filipino couple. He was thin and young looking for his age. She had a bit of weight-on, looked a little older and probably was the boss. Their thing was a screened in porch out back next us, and they had breakfast out there every morning and sometimes dinner in the summer - at least. Think they had a lot of fruit trees in their yard and they cooked sometimes on the veranda with some kind of barbecue. The good life. Think I heard he had been in the military, had a really nice brand-new car, and the grown-up kids with their kids, would show up once in awhile.
