The house was put up for sale. I had gotten another guy renting Jerry's old room. Someone did a lot of work on the front doors, stripping the old paint off and painting them a shiny black with gold trim. Think the house was brown shingle. A guy came in and broke loose all the windows that had been painted stuck shut. He had this neat chisel tool and I wanted one. I remember going to Norman's Hardware at Twenty-Third and Harrison, to see if I could get one. Think they told me I had to go to a specialty store, and so I never did.

Was awhile, but eventually two woman from New York bought the Powers Street house. At first it was all hunky-dory. They were going to move in upstairs and we would continue downstairs. One was older maybe fifties, and the other younger maybe late twenties. The younger told me I could do little things around the place for a bit of a rent break, and everything seemed well and good. But then some little time later, maybe a couple of weeks, it all changed. They were going to evict us. I got rather upset.

Apparently it was the older woman who wanted us out, for what reason I do not remember, if I ever knew. When I pointed out to the both of them that agreements had already been struck, the younger woman, it was interesting, lied about everything and said she had never agreed to anything. I don't think I had ever run across such blatant lying before, nor did there seem to be any good reason. She could have just said they changed their minds. Maybe she had not consulted with the other, had no permission to do so, had gone out on her own, thinking she was taking care of business.
