Every vehicle could not be gotten into the garage. In fact we never used it for any of our cars as it was too much hassle and just parked on the street. This is where I thought would be a good place to do my mechanics. I made some signs, clever art work I thought, and hung them in the local laundromats. I never did get a call which is just as well, because I don't think that was really my forte.

My second semester in the city I transferred to an industrial school in in San Francisco's Mission District. Had a friend as a matter of fact, my partner in the pottery shop, who took a shoe making class there. I decided to take a watch making course, and had the usual problem of administration mix-up. This one was different and interesting. My checks never came and so I went to the office to find out what the problem was. Don't remember how I found out, but the financial secretary didn't think I was qualified and took it upon herself to pigeon-hole my paperwork in her desk. She was probably right. She tried to brush me off but I refused to leave until she showed me my paperwork, which she finally did. So we got it properly filled out and then she said she would take care of it. I said no way. I will take it over and deliver it to the VA by hand.

I had to buy the tools necessary for watch-making like tweezers and a watch-vice, an eye loop and various other implements, like tiny screwdrivers and a book. I liked the book. It had a lot of great illustrations.
