I had only a high school GED, which I had gotten in the army, so I had to take an entrance exam to get into the college or to make evident which classes I would be eligible to take. I am not good at test taking. I couldn't pass the post office test even given ten points for being a veteran. So I prepped the test by speed reading, 'Meetings with Remarkable Men' by G. I. Gurdjieff, probably just incidentally. At any rate when I asked a councillor what classes I could take he said I had one of the highest scores ever. So I could take whatever I wanted. The reason I did well was because, it was read a paragraph and define the gist, by either multiple choice, or maybe not sure, write a few-line synopsis. It didn't involve memory which is my short-coming in these things.

I first took two summer courses, Algebra/Geometry not realizing the Geometry part was analytical, meaning graphs, which I had no interest in at all. I was interested in the Geometry from the points of view of geomancy, power spots and architectural geometry of ancient churches. The algebra part I was interested in because, I thought Algebra might have been invented as a means of divining heaven, if two parts on earth and one part in heaven were known, one could figure the fourth.

This course was a catastrophe. I went to every class and did every assignment and every formula. The final was twenty-eight questions. I could answer but two of them. Couldn't remember the formulas. He was nice. He gave me a D.
