I thought the farmers of the time would have some more intuitive means of prediction like the Old Farmer's Almanac.
At some point that autumn, a guy showed-up at our apartment who was just out of prison in Mexico. Edwardo had a house on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. On one of his trips down a few years earlier, he got busted for smoking pot in a vacant lot with some locals. He was sent to a federal prison, and Egeo his wife spent time down there trying to get him released by hassling the judge. Eventually she was successful. He maybe only spent three months in lock-up.
Which reminds me Sonoma and I and maybe Phy had lunch with Egeo's parents one time. They were Italian and we had a wonderfully simple Deli meat and garden fresh vegetable lunch. There was a woman there just over from Italy proper, who was an Italian radical and hated everything American. I got in a bit of a scrape with her, much to the dismay of Egeo's parents, who were trying to keep her calm. At any rate Egeo's father told a story of a friend of his who just got married. After the honey moon, he came over and reported that his wife
had pulled a gun on him. She told him that from now on she was the boss and
he was going to do everything that she told him or else. He was all in a snit and didn't know what to do. After a few hours he went home and nothing more was heard of it. He did not leave her and so one could only guess as to the
circumstances of the relationship.
