I had never in my life paid much attention to such medallions, since I never judged people based on their credentials, but rather what I experienced them to be. I flunked the first test which involved a lot of memory. I petitioned the teacher for a pass/no pass grade, thinking 'pass' would look better than a D. I told him I had a bad memory. He assured me that there would be no more tests like the first, and I needn't worry about it; and he was right. I probably would have gotten a pretty good grade, but exactly what will never know.

But I didn't believe him and felt he needed some convincing. I used an example from Sherlock Holmes, where Holmes did not know that the world was round and Watson was shocked to find this out. Always thought it was a somewhat trite representation such that I used, suppose Holmes had never heard of evolution instead. Holmes explanation was that his mind was like a work and wood shop. He had all his materials and tools neatly in place, and knew where everything was. If he said, I threw every piece of scrap wood I came across into my shop, I wouldn't even be able to get into it let alone use it.

The teacher enjoyed that. He was big on the Egyptians creating some kind of math or science-based system, emanating from the fact that there was a need to predict the flooding of the Nile every spring for planting. I thought it sounded like one of those flavor of the month pseudo-scientific theories, like the expanding balloon was for a time the explanatory illustration for the big bang.
