I would be eligible for three years. I enrolled at Santa Rosa Junior College. The first day of school I went and got a check in the gymnasium, where they had the envelopes in boxes on tables. It had my exact name on it and they gave it to me and said it was mine. About a year later I got a visit from the FBI because that first check was someone else's, and I had to give the money back.
I got this check in June, six hundred I think, and did not get another until October or November. I made a couple of trips to the VA in San Francisco. The second time I was seen by a character who was essentially showing off for his replacement who he was breaking in, on how not to do anything for anybody. Said he would take care of me. Think for anyone who has been in the army, 'I will take care of you' means "I will take of myself and screw you if necessary". They took off apparently for coffee and when they came back laughing it up about whatever, they were shocked when they found me still sitting there. He didn't plan to do anything except bull-crap me. I said its a computer error call the guy who handles it. He was so dumb probably didn't know what a computer was. I knew when I left there that it was hopeless. Finally months later I heard about a trouble shooter at the college. He called San Francisco computer center and had the problem solved in about twenty minutes. In nearly any organization you have to find the one guy in thousands that has enough brains to figure out how
to make a phone call.
