Crossing the state line into Wisconsin was to go from the worst roads in the country, because Illinois was so corrupt they said, to the best like black magic carpet. I got stopped for speeding in Wisconsin once and they took me to jail because I could not post bail. Must say it was the best jail I ever been with a thick mattress, blankets and a cushy pillow. Christo had to drive home to my mother to get the cash and drive back getting onto midnight a distance of some forty miles.
Another time up in Lake Geneva, and I only stole things three times, or four if you count Playboy Magazines slipped surreptitiously into the thick multi-page Sunday Tribune newspaper as class or type of theft, or I stole a model airplane engine from a neighbor, but I was only five and didn't know I was stealing thinking he had so many of them. It was a long driveway outside Lake Geneva city proper, with a '59 Cadillac at a distance from the house. After dark with a phillips screwdriver, and we were just driving by and saw the car, I wanted the tail lights and crept up and removed them.
And again Wisconsin wise, was the time and I don't know why we had two cars, the battery on the '57 Chev went dead out on the highway car engine fizzles and coast to a stop. We happened to have jumper cables and there was no insurance paid call-towing out in the middle of nowhere in those days. So we jumped the Chevy and took off.
