But we hit the front side of the Buick with my rear end, so that the tail fin wrapped round across the trunk sealing the door down which had popped open with the case of beer inside. My continued forward momentum was in front of and past the Buick, and Dickie was next to the door which was thrown open and he was thrown partly out so that his feet were still in, and we were moving very slowly now a snail's pace and he was trying to kick his beer bottle in now on the floor, so it would stay in the car.
The other racer snuck through unscathed. We were then stopped on the right shoulder side of the road and a crowd appeared and the beer bottles had broken in the trunk and a liquid was running onto the street. We yelled gas, gas and everybody moved away so no beer was smelt. Just conveniently we had been skinny dipping the night before so there were still damp towels underneath the front seat. As I scrambled out of the car to assess the horrendous damage, Christo with the towels was able to hide the beer bottle that had fallen on the road as well as the others and we all wiped up the beer that has splashed all over so that when the police arrived no sign of beer could be detected and no one was hurt.
We smoked a lot of cigarettes. The rear wheel was rubbing but we were able to pull the right rear fender away and drive it home to the gas station in Long Lake where we pried open the trunk, got rid of the contraband and hosed the whole thing down.
