The mainstay was mostly four of us. Jimbo and myself drove. Dickie didn't have a car and his parents wouldn't let him use the families. And Kendra drove his folks big fifty-five Buick now and then and mostly then. One time he wanted know how fast it would go but was afraid to drive it himself. I got the assignment although Cristo was a much better driver than myself. We were in Wisconsin at night and it was a long straight stretch of like driving on air black-top. I took it up to a hundred and forty and felt it seeming to want to lift off the road so I shut it down. That is the fastest I ever driven.

We spent a lot of time in those two cars Friday and Saturday nights smoking, drinking and eating pretzels, if we didn't like the taste of the beer so much - Budweiser in quart bottles the cheapest by the case from a large market. Often it might be a three quart night each of us might drink. Is that possible ? As I remember it. But in the three years lets say of drinking and driving there was only once that I was too drunk to drive, since we only drank beer and never hard liquor.

James alias Jimbo and myself decided to go and drink in Wisconsin where underage drinking was legal in the form of Near Beer said to contain little of no alcohol. We stopped at a bar and it was a big place with lots of kids. Actually I never was that drunk to drive ever in my life and and I had to drive back to Illinois, sometimes seeing double for the only time in my life. And I was back in Illinois near home, had an accident on an S curve driving to fast and hit another drunk who was on my side of the road beginning his left turn into his driveway too early about a hundred feet too early.

But that was with the Pontiac, a Grand Prix convertible with front bucket seats. Which reminds me, there was a point where I could not get that car to drive faster than thirty miles an hour.
