He was so proud of the garbage wood he got for cheap and at the same time we lost our truck. I pulled the head and tried to grind the valves by hand but didn't know what I was doing. We had to junk it. And this kind of screw-up did not even embarrass him.
The business did not last long. Too many things went wrong. The truck was
gone. There was the embarrassment of Marko. The metal shafts were difficult
to obtain and in one case slightly bent which did not show up until some weeks after the wheel was assembled on site. A throwing head was warped and the frame design was not yet perfected.
Almost anything I got involved in with Marko was a catastrophe. Edwardo wouldn't talk to him at all eventually. But he was good for some stuff. He knew his movies. Remember it was his idea to see 'The 7 Faces of Dr. Lao'. We saw it at the York Theater over on Twenty-Fourth and York Street. That is a classic. One time we were going to the movies out by the beach on the Great Highway. Almost there and I discovered that I left my money at home. No one had enough to make it up. So Marko says we will go anyway and work something out. I thought it completely hopeless. We get there late and people are outside taking `a break between movies. We all just walked in like we had been breaking, and got in for free for the second feature; the one we wanted to see.
