I was considered the perfect clerk by the brass. But I knew better since I spent as little time at the job as I could. So I always wondered what was said of me after I left ? I convinced Simsay to take the job although he didn't want it. Make a man of you I told him. Put hair on chest as Andrew would say. He had it so easy in the mail room. Too soft I told him.
So I always wondered what was said of my work after I left. But I lost touch with those guys and though when I came back to the US a couple of years later I called them from New York to DC, but I got no answer. The timing however was perfect. My orders gave me time to take Christmas leave at home and report to Fort Dix New Jersey the first week of January.
