And then I came down on a levy for Greece. Did I want to go ? Not exactly. I liked it where I was. But my orders superior thought I would love Greece, but said I wouldn't be able to go unless I re-enlisted. I said right. So I won't go. And I thought that was that - I wasn't going. And this being say early October and I had been there near a year then.
And there was an interesting coincidence. I had no idea I was going to Greece and it was on weekend, and I happened to be in the office with some other clerks perhaps Andrew and Simsays when an AWOL walked in absent without leave and wanted by the Military Police, a court martial offense, AWOL from Greece.
He had a long story about this crazy Major over there, but I didn't pay much attention because I didn't know I would be stationed under the command of the same crazy Major. However when I arrived in Greece, eventually I heard the story of the AWOL and the Major who were great buddies and sky dived together, got drunk, were night club companions, and that when AWOL disappeared, it was great disappointment to the Major and he never was the same.
And then came Viet Nam and give me a thousand bodies of - I don't want to know their names nor see their faces. And people were coming down on levies for Viet Nam who were normally exempt from levies. And they came to see me. And I had to show them the code unchanged. They had put a WAAC Major in charge of reassignments. Someone out of the loop who could not be influenced. You're going - like it or not, like Getitdone went to Korea.
