And so I would take up with impossibles, store manikins, dead women's cemetery photos and real women I would adore but never talk to. I began hanging out at a cemetery in Georgetown perhaps for an hour on early Sunday afternoons. Green tree leaf and white marble quiet and peaceful. So Andrew and I shared the studio room for a month maybe, then we moved back on post.

Whom was gone to Hawaii and the administrative Sergeant assigned himself to the Presidio in San Francisco. The Duty Roster clerk who had my old office at the head of the stairs came down on a levy to be shipped out to South Korea, a place he did not want to go nor we all.

Now Whom would have taken care of it for our buddy, who wanted to be a professional musician a singer actually, but was conflicted as whether to be a music teacher or a night clubber and try to make it in the music world; of which this last is what I suggested, and if you fail then be a teacher. Why go thru life never knowing ?

So the new office sergeant screwed it up. Didn't know who to talk to in the Pentagon and the duty roster clerk's name became associated with attempted favoritism and thus he must go to Korea no matter what. O he was mad.

His job was working the phones all day. There were certain duties that had to be performed each for a day, like kitchen help or guard duty, charge of quarters for more senior enlisted or head counter counting the number of people who ate at the mess hall. We as company cadre were duty free.
