So all these people worked in the Pentagon, and when a general said my Little Boy Blue is not pulling that duty on that particular day, some clerk got on the phone and called Specialist Getitdone, whose job it was to create the original duty roster and get it printed up and distributed, but to also makes swaps.
Little Boy Blue can't work on Friday, so Getitdone called around to find someone who could, and when the replacements turn came, Little Boy Blue would return the favor and work on that day instead. If there was one key phrase of which it could be said was used more than any other in that office, it would be "I owe you one" !
Getitdone sent a letter or two from Korea and it was not so bad, he got used to it. And Whom sent some letters from Hawaii working in a HQs unit there. Don't think he had the same degree of power as he had in DC. And all the power he did have came from the exchange of favors - I owe you one and you owe me.
Andrew and I would go riding on our bikes, around DC or Georgetown or out in the country off-roading which was fun. Sometimes Simsays rode with Andrew. We went to the Shenandoah Valley a few times to hike around in the autumn smell of the steep dark valley forests. And the three of us hung out in restaurants that for the first time in my experience served salad dressing on one's hamburger. And it was good. We had intellectual discussions on Friday and or Saturday evenings.
