Consequence
is significant actuality, or potential affect of change, positive or negative, as or upon any given entity capable of registering such affect. The weather is of on-going Consequence, significant relative to its affects per-personally, as for instance a farmer much, or a restaurant cook not so.
Individual philosophy might be said to be the study or practice of what is important and what is not. And thus for instance, of what Consequence is one's time. He decided he would create time for himself considered as of greater Consequence than money, use his time other than, working making money. In this manner Consequence is a dictate of the practice of living one's life.
In the affairs of humanity Consequence and what is deemed to be of Consequence in its degrees, directs it could be said, all human activity and behavior. What is of Consequence is debatable but most people direct their energy, time and effort to what they deem is of Consequence, consistent with the conditions they find themselves. Money may rule one's life. Love may rule one's life or some degree as both.
Attention is paid to that considered of Consequence with perhaps little or no awareness of what is not. So what is of Consequence would determine then the awareness of the individual in most given instances often called consciousness.
Consequence is objective, as all human bodies are subject to the same hazards, jeopardy, dangers, risk, vulnerabilities and perils. Most people naked will freeze to death at about the same temperature. Things like air, water and food are necessary to all life, and as Consequence affect the daily lives of every individual.
And Consequence is subjective. What is of Consequence to one, is inconsequential to another. What are the importantances of my life ? A computer screen magnifier and a text editor spell check, this second of which we got working again yesterday. As Consequence these programs affects my life. But on the other hand the vacuity may have forced me into these specific writings. Women may relish fashion, men sports - the affects of two independent Consequences.
What is of Consequence to an individual determines that person's conscious state of being, of what they are aware, see hear and do in any given present moment. She paid but scant attention to her lovely surroundings in Pick-wick Meadows, so engaged in conversation was she with her new lover. If the color of the light, tone of the sky, smell of the air, whisper of the birds wending by are important, an individual will notice and be aware. If not, the individual will walk blind un-noticing anything, but perhaps he looks at pretty girls and a newspaper headline.
Consequence is everybody's business. Religion says what is of Consequence is not the here and now, but above in future in God's realm. And so they mandate consequential negation, declaring the material world as of no Consequence unless specific aspects are granted God's grace, even though they say God created everything.
Capitalism of course needs raw materials to produce its products and thus defines anything natural as of no Consequence in and of itself. Materialism, thus exploitable for forests as paper and wood products, rivers as run-off for industrial waste, woodland flattened for agriculture. What is of no Consequence is what is subject to transformation or destruction for alternative enterprise.
Most people may agree upon what is of Consequence by class status or what is affordable. Most institutions promote some form of Consequence such as religions, governments, educational and commercial associations. People are free to ascribe subjective Consequence to whatever they want so long as no social laws are broken. And in such a manner determine their degree of awareness or consciousness. Did you not see the lunar eclipse ? I didn't think it was important.
