It was hot, so hot that the deer and even buck would be swimming in the lake. At first I heard something go by my tent at night in the dark. I couldn't figure out what it was that could come up the cliff and make such a heavy foot thud sound. After I saw deer swim in the day-time, I figured it out.

It was an idyllic little lake, and for the beauty of it, I could just sit there in my camp site most of the day and glory in it. Sometimes I took short hikes to other lakes close by, all really wooded and shaded with swampy places and old dead and rotted out logs, new very green growth and spring flowers, since the snow may have only recently melted, leaving dark pools of water everywhere, as breeding grounds for the mosquitoes. By August most of the mosquitoes would be gone.

I did a little fishing but I have to say I have never caught a fish in these perfectly pure and clear Sierra lakes; where you would never see a fish, and never know that there were any there, unless you hear one jump. I read somewhere once, the trick is to hide behind a tree when fishing, so they don't know you are there. My scenic view was of the whole lake looking east and south to wooded hill sides. I mostly just sat there taking in the mirror of the water, the reflections, the light changes through the day, the smells and the peace. The woods when I am surrounded with forestry, is the only place I really relax.
