Now I had to boil my water. The next day I left and trudged back up to Triangle Lake. It again was intermittent rain and I got to test my couple of wind-breakers, stuff I had tracked down particularly at such as Salvation Army, where I got a lot of the accoutrements of my back-packing gear. It was a tough climb and when I got back to Triangle there was no one there. It being Monday they had all been week-enders. So I had my choice of camp sites. I took one facing east on a high bluff with cliff overlooking the lake. It was a beautiful spot and even for the mosquitoes which were not that bad in the daytime, I decided to stay there a week.
But I had to make a decision. If I was going to stay, I would have to walk back to the truck to get more fuel, a round trip of eight or ten miles. Since the pump was not working I would need to boil all my water and use a lot of fuel. I was not going to deal with fires. I didn't like them. They were work, dirty, and dangerous and I didn't want to be responsible for starting any forest fires. When I got back I was really exhausted. It took a lot out of me. I had never gotten that fatigued before. I later found out that there was a lot of scum and pitch in the water from the Pine trees. All I had to do was clean the filter quite often, which is something I was not aware, and blamed the pump it being new.
