Then we took a path skirting half way up along the hill-side west on the north face, to the end where it cliff dropped straight down to the road and circled back on a lower path along the cliff ledge cut for the road to above where I started. Out here was a bit of a point and a flat spot like a bit like a grassy balcony.
We always stopped there for awhile, and below just to the right and on the other side of the road was a big three lot Eucalyptus grove of giant trees. There was always a competition between Odie and Pal, where Pal was older and weaker, and would sometimes get roughed-up by younger more muscular Odie in their playing when he would charge her and they would hit shoulder to shoulder.
There came a day when Pal got even. She one time got over by the edge of the cliff and snookered him into charging her, where at the last moment she deftly stepped aside and he went flying over the cliff, which was not completely vertical but nearly so, such that he got turned around and was able to claw at the slate shale like rock as he tumulted down. He slammed into the rear panel of Cadillac, as it was driving by not fast. It did not stop and am I not sure the driver even noticed. Odie was all-right and did not seem to be affected. Pal stood on the edge of the cliff looking down and God was she proud of what she had done.
