The path was fairly steep. Bernal Heights Boulevard which ran all around the hill, was open to auto traffic at that time. It was used on this the north side by mostly neckers and guys who would pick up prostitutes in the Mission, beer drinking kids, and junkers who would drop their garbage - mostly things like: one time as I was climbing the hill path and almost reached the road, an old toilet came flying over the side. I couldn't see but I could hear a pick-up truck which slowed, but did not stop. They kicked it off the back. The road was little used in the mornings and most of the day until towards evening time.

From the road was a complete unobstructed view of the city and Marin to the north, west to the top of Diamond Heights, south to the San Bruno Mountains and the bay as far as you could see, and to the east the other side of the bay and East Bay Hills all the way to Mount Diablo. The north side of the hill just below the road was vacant slope and all undeveloped weedy lots, from Folsom Street inclining all the way up to Bocanna Street.

When I reached the road I walked west following the course inclined up and around the hill. This was great for the dogs to walk along the road ridge, looking down into the vacant hillsides for cats and any wild things like ground-hogs, where they could take off bounding down the hill in full chase. I did not worry about them ever catching anything, because by the time they would get down to the critter, it would be long gone.
