By the invention of technology and the introduction of Excess and Profit, the human species transcends the natural methods of population regulation and both external and purposeful population containment are reduced or eliminated.

History has shown that when the ability of technology transcends the natural external means of population containment, and new technologies are able to engender greater food and energy resources, the human population increases. The more food that can be grown, the more land that can be cleared of forests for agriculture, the more transportation and infrastructure that can be created, the more the population grows. There are also external controls which are inherent to the specific condition of human over population. Historically over population of the human species had External controls such as disease and war. Over population which becomes very dense was susceptible to the spread of disease. This has been to a large extent overcome by the invention of vaccines. Population growth is progressive. Very large and increasing population growth requires an expanding economy, to include the increase of jobs, housing, industry, food production, infrastructure, energy creation or an expanding economy. This may lead eventually to a need for territorial expansion, the colonization of foreign lands or migration, any of which can lead to war, which in affect is another external means of population control.

The human species for all its pomposity of the superiority of the human intellect is no different than any other species in terms of the inability to control its own population. This is primarily due to the absence of Proto-religion, which in the context of population control, is the absence of a conviction of the evaluative equality of all things, and an identity which defines itself as an aspect and equivalent to the whole living existence. This conviction would require an attitude of ethical economic accordance with the environment as by means of Necessity and Subsistence. The absence of Proto-religion is the absence of the consideration of pre-existent value and consequence, inherent to all elements of the natural world, and thus requires in its stead the creation of value and consequence as the production of human created intellectual and physical properties which is termed Progressive Materialism. (Reference Absence of Consequence)
