Between Socialism and Communism is Authoritarianism, as less government control than communism but more than Democratic Socialism, Democracy and Anarchy. Authoritarianism as a central authority is essentially Socialist in its character, because the economic support and maintenance is through the pooling of resources of the greater populace by means of taxes, and because it regulates and controls many aspects of the society. Examples of Authoritarian governments are non-representative Monarchy, Dictatorships, Military Juntas and Religious States. Because authoritarian government regulates from a central authority without the consent of the majority of its constituents, it must be imposed and maintained by force.

There are two types of Authoritarian governments which are defined here as Altruistic and Corrupt. Altruistic Authoritarianism is based on the concept of the Authoritative Dictate, which is an ideal model for what society should be. Authoritative Dictates can be such things as Confucianism, Communism, religious beliefs or Capitalism. The three basic forms of Altruistic Authoritarianism are Military rule, Monarchy and Religious States. Corrupt Authoritarianism is the utilization of government for purposes of the self-serving interest of classes, groups, organizations and individuals, as opposed to the interests of the society as a whole in which they rule. Corrupt Authoritarianism in simple terms means government by criminals.
