Continuing on to the left, a short hallway lead to the main factory room filled with ancient machinery, mounted on long benches each machine small with an accompanying flexible spot light. The room was high ceilinged, old, windowed but dark and gloomy mostly unused except for the occasional special job.
Continuing ahead along forward was far wall were large tall windows overlooking the parking lot. It was told to me that the room was dark because too much light impaired vision of work on tiny objects interfering with the spot lights. Against the window wall were the desks of the plant foreman and machinist. Turning left and proceeding along an isle between these desks and a row of unused machinery on the left, next came a couple of milling machines, a drill press, a mechanical metal saw and other floor tools. Through another short wide hall into the back was a medium size room unused except for a large ceiling high stamping machine operated occasionally by the janitor. This room was filled with ancient machinery-junk and fairly dark as well. At the end of this hall wall, immediately left and left again, was the doorway into the needle machine room.
My job was to fill six machines with blank rondels every thirty minutes give or take, and then check each machine by placing a tiny golden wire basket under the eject shoot, and with a tweezers take the sharpened rondel and first swish it in acetone to remove the oil, then dab it on a paper towel, and finally put it on the viewing plate of a large magnifier with a viewing screen, which was in the middle of the room.
