Was anti-climatic when he used a running start, but the flames spewing out the exhaust in the after-dark demonstration were impressive. We skipped the big Sunday Daytona 500 stock car race and went over and saw John Glen get shot-off for the first orbit in space, the next morning I believe which was a Monday. We then went south through the Okeechobee swamp, maybe to Miami but don't remember, 'cross Florida and drove along the Gulf Coast to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. May have been my first motel stay of my life in Datona and a high-point for me and I don't remember if I alone or they came with me, was saw the movie Flower Drum Song.

New Orleans Mardi Gas, me and Dave pretty much blew our money the first night at Bourbon Street bars, or should say on bar-girls, while Larry was disapproving. Guess that's why Dave and I were drivers. In retrospect I have ever been so grateful I did not take up the sport. I would have killed myself. My mind tends to leave my body, and one really needs to be in the car when driving, and not outside. The plan had been to then go to Texas, but with only Larry's money, we had to beat a hasty retreat home with our tails between our legs.

At some point before the falling out with Shorty, having nothing much to do for forty minutes at a time, I started doing analysis of a problem my nemesis Hegel had given me. He drew on a piece of paper the Tao symbol and asked me to figure-out what it meant. Being the provincial idiot, I did not realize that no one knew exactly the meaning, and so I set out to figure with a pen and shorthand notebook, of which my mother used as a secretary.
