As I remember there were other goings on as well. I was invited to dinner with Wherebe and Whobe now and then, as they were called by their Gerjieff friends, who were nice but some a bit weird it seemed to me. Gerjieff taught a technique of watching oneself, in order to learn one's unconscious habits and actions. This was a technique I had learned on my own, and thus had an affinity with the group.

At any-rate they were the most self-conscious people I ever run across watching themselves. There were various people and characters who came around the pottery shop, some of which I learned later, and especially a guy that built the clay traps for the sink was SLA, the group that kidnapped Patty Hearst. He was not involved with any of that though. He went to the country about that time. Actually I thought I saw Patty Hearst once when she was on the run, at the Cala Market on Ocean Avenue near Mission. The most paranoid looking woman I ever saw passed me in one of the isles. I was not sure but thought it looked like her. Turned out when they caught her she was living just few blocks from there so it probably was her. In fact when the other members were caught, they were living in a house down on Precita Street right close to Precita Park, about three or four blocks from where I was living on Winfield. Bernal Heights was full or radicals in those days.

Met MaryT who would become my room mate for a short while. Whobe ran the shop. She had a degree in pottery from some school in New York state or city, I am not sure.
