At some point in afternoons apparently I would walk from the pottery shop over the hill to the wood shop to do the woodwork. These were meant to be community shops, with master craftsmen or craftspersons today who could make their living from the shop, and there were to be apprentices, and kids from the community coming in at scheduled times to the learn the craft. Wherebe also envision aged an arts/craft store, to sell the various products made in the shops, which would support the artists and pay the rent. Private lessons given by the masters could also be incorporated into the scheme. This was Wherebe's baby which may have been in practice for only a year or two before I got there.

Wherebe was funded by US government endowed arts programs, and in particular a woman who was running some city programs, and who was quite instrumental. There were rumors that Wherebe and she were an item and that he was using her for the money. This kind of gossip seemed to be expressed by competitors, who had their own visions of social idealism, but who were not so favored with monetary largess. A lot of nasty rumor mongering in those days, and maybe a simple matter of anything political in any day and time. At any rate it proved to be the case - he was having an affair with her. However it also turned out it was not for the money. Eventually he left Whobe for this woman or so I heard, having no personal knowledge myself. Wherebe also got private donations from rich people who were very generous in the revolutionary tenor of the times. Most of the money for the wood-shop and power tools was said to come from one such generous benefactor.
