However there is a problem in that vested interests in most societies prefer
interpretations of history that are most advantages to their interests. Many historians do not write a true record, but perhaps some idealized form, some version that conforms to the particular social group they wish to associate
with, or some political view they hold. It may be superficial due to the author's ignorance of of high caste control. It may be that only particular norms for historical fact will get any funding and be published. The truth may be so
contrary to accepted norms that deviation is discouraged. One needs to choose historical perspectives they believe to be the most realistic based upon their own understanding of the motives of humankind. And of course history can be studied in the present moment. The present is history in the making. If the objectives of humankind are the same throughout history, then the fundamentals of politics might also be the same. The difference between one's own personal present history and that recorded, may be only a matter of degree of consequence.
Another avenue of understanding is the comprehension of issues. The
familiarization of issues can be obtained by reading the opinion pages in the
newspapers. One can get the varying political perspectives by reading opinions
from various view points. However one might find, depending on the politics of the newspaper and one's geographical local, many limitations to the spectrum of opinion. This may also be true of the broadcast media. However today, if one has access to the internet, it is quite easy to find various and opposing opinions on issues. Then it is up to the individual to search out and read opinions that
portray a true and accurate depiction of the world, rather than those opinions
that merely support one's already formed opinions and prejudices, and that
may justify one's particular chosen or inherited lifestyle, in which case the familiarization with opposing points of view would be counterproductive.
If one is of the opinion that the political, cultural, economic or religious systems they inhabit are not representative of one's view, then one can be politically
active by choosing to live in a manner not in accordance with the norm and
that more conforms with one's convictions. These systems are set up so
that one is forced to the greatest extent possible to support them. Political
action is consciousness and awareness. Political action is a set of values.
