The Identity that one creates or adopts may be based as well, to satisfy a
pre-existing emotional need. Thus this individual may not create or adopt
an Idenity for Identities sake, but rather for the emotional content an Identity may contain, all but certainly unconscious. For instance angry people may adopt Identities that let them express their anger such as gang members with identifiable enemies.
While the Ego interprets the experience of the body in physical reality, Identities can be created hole cloth in the mind with no basis in reality whatever. Singing in the shower and while walking around town, she created the Identity of an opera deva. She began to interpret others reactions as if they thought she was a marvellous soprano.
The creation of Identities can form a dual authority for Interpretation, which may be complimentary or oppositional to the pre-existing Ego as body Interpretation. The safe and certain Identity of accountant would accord the conservative Ego while the dare-devil parachutist would not. It further could be speculated that women are more Ego oriented than men since the body is more greatly affected by hormonal biology. Whereas for men, the Identity is of greater significance as the pursuit of external objectives.
Because the Ego is limited and confined to one body, which may be oppressive in some circumstance, the Identities allow for escape and freedom from the Ego's limitations. In the modern age and with technological development, many dozens and hundreds of Identities have been created, since the expansion of objectives have been made possible by industrialization. While small towns still have the same limited number of Identities, large cities have a multiplicity of professions one can with training consist.
