And I think he did. But I did my usual. I wanted something until I got it and then did not want it anymore. Well I would have taken the money if it did not cost me commitment, of any kind of time and consciousness.
Another branch on the same tree, I was working at Stanford and someone told me
there was guy, he apparently was handling student summer painting crews, who knew the guy who invented the Frisbee and owned Wham-O the novelty company. The idea here was I could show him my game. I talked to him and told him I had a game and would like to show it to the Wham-O guy.
Only he wanted a deal. He wanted me to train disadvantaged young men the art of plastering. That was the deal. He was a humanitarian. Well I didn't want to do that. I liked the student helper I was working with. He was fairly intellectual and we spent a lot of time talking while we were working. I wanted to talk to a Stanford intellectual. The other thing was I didn't like to do deals. He could do me a favor because I needed or wanted it. I didn't think I should have to buy it. For him it was - I should do this as a service to humanity. Now it was sounding like blackmail. but the other thing was, if you got right down to it, maybe I didn't think it was that good-a game. I should perform a humanitarian service for some result that was highly doubtful. Besides Wham-O did mostly outdoor athletic products whereas this was a board game and not that complicated. So I passed on it.
