The affect of the system of progressive materialism, historically will prove to be environmentally catastrophic, as is already proving to be the case, by global warming, the degradation of the fisheries, deforestation and desertification.
For the concerned citizen, this individual can make the decision to support this progressive system, which is humanitarian in the sense that it does create jobs, supply money and an ever abundant supply of necessities, new toys and styles. Or the individual can refuse to take part, and live a lifestyle that impacts the environment to the least degree. The individual can live non-profit and acquire and possess what is essential and not what is superfluous.
The degree to which one is or becomes personally wealthy is the degree to
which the individual supports progressive economics. In terms of the economy based on the promotion of product style, to the extent that the individual buys into this, is the degree to which they may not control their own lives, but may be controlled by what others think, and standards not of their own making. To the extent that they buy what is unnecessary, is to the extent that they may be controlled by the mass marketing machine and the corporations. The problem of the reliance upon the excessive accumulation of material things, may be a matter of the Materialist Identity of Progressive Materialism. The means by which the materialist substantiates the self, as a sense of worth and consequence, is by what the individual accumulates, owns and possesses,
or talent as potential to material property.
The individual who would choose a non-profit lifestyle would need to transcend
or be independent of the Materialist Identity. This individual gains a sense of consequence and worth not from the accumulation of material assets, but from
life experience and the creation of a personal and individual identity based on integrity, Ethics, pride and personal
responsibility. This individual's substantiation of worth and consequence
is not by material accumulation, but by an identification with what already
exists as the natural world.
