Now for me caught in these sorts of events time slows down. As the ladder was going out from under me I was thinking there are two ways I can go down. Actually what apparently happens is the mind speeds up, so that reality seems to slow down. And while my thinking seemed like it was normal, it had to have been warp speed because the ladder went fairly quickly. I can fall face-first and try to break the fall with my arms and maybe break
one of them, or I can kick off and land feet first, but my knee joint will be locked and that would be equally problematic. I chose to hit feet first and sure enough my leg was locked in the effort to get it under me in such a short space.
Man that hurt and I was yelling up and down the street. An interesting thing then, a
homeless type man whether or not I don't really know, probably not, tried to help me. Then a middle-aged and middle class type man assumed him to be attacking me or something and chased him away based solely on his looks, when really he was only trying to help. I had a bad limp and went home and laid down for awhile and then took the dogs for a mile around the top of Bernal Hill limping all the way. My theory was to walk it off. I walked the dogs twice a day and did so again the next morning. Went to work and gimped it all the day. It was sore for at least six months and I used a pillow under the crook of my leg when laying down. But it did eventually return to normal with only an occasional twinge.
