The right pedal was the mechanical brake, meaning wires pulled the brakes tight. The center foot pedal was reverse. One pushed down to back the car up. The left pedal was low, neutral and high. Push it down for low gear, pull it out with the toe underneath for high gear. Push it down into the middle for neutral to slow or stop.
The gas or throttle lever was on the steering column where wind-shield wipers are now. Also integral to its operation was the spark lever opposite on the column, just under the steering wheel where the turn signal is now.
To begin forward - with the left foot press down on the left pedal. With the right hand pull down on the gas. With the left hand pull down on the spark - and this gear was quite low and would only take one to five or ten miles an hour. To shift - push up the gas, push up the spark and pull up with the left toe the left floor pedal and now one can steer.
My first car. I don't think the headlights worked as I can remember driving in the dark with friends sitting on the fenders with flash lights. I drove it around town for a summer never venturing across the tracks onto the highway, since top speed may have been thirty-five or forty miles and hour.
The most interesting thing that happened was as I was turning around at the public beach. I had backed into a drive way.
