Any semblance of democracy is based upon an informed public;
the more informed the greater the ability of choice and the
facility to make intelligent decisions. However capitalist media like the right wing everywhere, believes that their perspectives are right (as in always 'right' wing) and thus ridiculous to broadcast wrong or opinions other than their
own. This is their myopic mentality which always convenient to primarily elite commercial interests. In America and many other countries, the media controls the attitudes and opinions of the majority in the interest of capitalist values. For any country or community to engage in real democracy the media must represent public interest as opposed to the private. So
long as majority opinion is controlled by minority interests
democracy is fallacy.
For those interested in media and its influence on democracy
in terms of action, people can organize locally and in concert with other similarly interested grass roots organizations and learn the law, (Communications Act of 1934 and 1996 deregulation law), challenge licences and do boycotts.
