So it was time to go, entertainment over. But wouldn't you know I got caught in the set and it was more crowded now with maybe a dozen people and with women now. I didn't recognize the opening bars of the song 'Oh Happy Day' by the Edwin Hawkins Singers. Just as I stood up, on 'Oh happy day' and took my first step, I heard the line, 'when Jesus walked'. Damn - they got me. I could feel everyone's eyes on me. 'Oh happy day', 'Oh hippy day' and I started walking, on the phrase 'and Jesus walked', 'And Jesus walked'. It was too late. I was up and started. I was caught in the drama that I had just been observing, and became the actor in the theater of the observed.
Wasn't until many years later that I found out that the line was not 'Jesus Walked' but 'Jesus washed'. But even if it sounds like walked, who would ever think there would be a line like 'Jesus washed'.
