Now the problem was the ice was usually covered in deep snow late January, February and early March. But on this particular evening the snow had been blown to the East end of the lake leaving the rest of the ice snow-free. Unfortunately we, and I believe I was driving, got to far easterly and being dark we did not see the snow embankments. So doughnuting around and around we slammed into a mound of wind piled snow - wham ! But no harm and we were able to pull out easily as the car had not penetrated very far.
