Inherent in this duality is the bipolar dichotomy of what and who is of religious sanctity and what and who is not. Progressive religion that is more secularized, where its members are an integral part of the cultural and economic community, and who understand the perspectives of that society, tend to soften these distinctions. Fundamentalist religion tends to return to an emphasis of these differences, to be less compromising and more puritanical. Fundamentalist religions may dislike and may not accept the concept of the separation of church and state. They may feel that the salvation of humankind depends on every individual not simply mouthing religious ideals, but living these principles to
the fullest in the practice of everyday life. This practice may not encompass a multiplicity of shared perspectives as is found in secularized religions and
society in general. Because Progressive Religions are usually monotheist, encompassing unified, singular all encompassing doctrine, they tend to be
Authoritarian. Furthermore fundamentalist progressive religions are often Right Wing. Because the nature and purpose of
government in general is the benefit of all of its citizens, and because
religious fundamentalists feel that only their perspective should be supported
and promoted, they tend to be against secular government. Furthermore they have a tendency to be elitist for the reasons suggested above.
The fundamentalism of Religious Materialism tends to share some of the
same aspects of Conservative Spirituality, in the sense that they are both
opposed, more or less, to progressive development. Because spiritual conservatism is based on present reality, in which every naturally created
entity is considered an inherently spiritual manifestation, with a planetary
family or categorical history of millions of years, systems of polarized abstract valuation are not created. There is not created dualities, wherein polarities such as good and evil, heaven and hell, godly and godless, believers and heathens
or Right and Left Wing, are used to evaluate what is applicable to the appropriate
categories. Thus there tends to be an absence of the inherent mechanisms of abstract, depersonalized, removed and remotely directed hatreds, and the viciousness of the individual and mass hysteria which abstract hatred generates. Animosities are usually personalized and localized, based upon personal experience of the of the person, or of those close by in the community known
to them.
