This is essentially pretending to be others, in order to learn the problems and conditions that these others encounter. The degree to which this role playing is believed determines the intensity and consequence one attaches to it. The greater the belief of the Consequence involved in the character role, the more real seeming and the more one would correspond decision-making to a greater accuracy of the character role.

A means for the accomplishment of role playing is termed Enigmatic Belief, using what are called Learning Illusions. However when this activity takes the form of Manic Realization, a state of mind that may be encouraged through the use of drugs, or may be commonly associated schizophrenia, it can be a dangerous, as the belief in unreality can cause one to act on unrealistic assumptions, thus putting oneself and others at risk. Thus there is a fine line of non-material or mental belief, of using only reality that corresponds with Learning Illusions, but never forcing reality to conform, and never acting in dangerous ways. As one comes to realize that one could be anyone else, understands the consequences and responsibilities of those positions, one may transcend the singular identity and Ego, and assume a Detached attitude and perspective.

A further enhancement of the detached state of mind is when the individual realizes the 'thinking I' transcends the physical body and exists beyond the physical death. This may occur through a process commonly known as Astral Projection, or even that phenomenon of tunnel travel on the verge or not of death. If one becomes fairly convinced that the 'thinking I' left the body, then one might become convinced of life after death. This realization would in all probability take some weight, anxiousness, insecurity or seriousness from the experience of living.
