He would drive through, as was the custom, holding two twenty dollar bills out the window, and anybody wanted to race would follow him out to a pre-arranged race site. The race was the approximate of a 'straight-away' 'quarter mile'. Claims he never lost a race.
Too many stories to tell with this car, but one event that was especially fun took place at a drive-in movie. Sometimes we went to the drive-in with one or two people in the trunk to save money. In this case I got in the trunk and someone else drove my car in. They parked inside and were letting me out just as the drive-in cop was driving up. I jumped in the driver's seat and there was only one thing to do -- which was leave.
He began to follow us, and it became a race, going up, down and over the elevated rows, where cars were parked angled upwards toward the giant movie screen, between the poles in which window speakers hung. Reached the exit with him right on our tale, turned right onto the highway and floored it through the gears, with the proper sound affects of the screaming engine, for those inside who had witnessed our flight. 'Left him in the dust', seeing his amazed but determined face recede in the rear view mirror, and up over one-hundred twenty mph, then had to slow for a light. Luckily caught it green, turned left, floored it again, and he gave up.
