Interpretation:
Interpretation is the particular Associations one may choose from the the myriad of possibilities available in the memory, which are associated or attached to any given present sensation in present circumstance or present mental activity, like 'seaside' can produce any of multitudinous associations from ocean beach to restaurant.
Automatic Association:
Interpretation as the choice of Association is defined as automatic or volitional selection.
Associational selections are made automatically in lightning speed, which is necessary for instantaneous response to potentially life-threatening or harmful situations, such as one jumped at the sudden appearance of a snake. After the so-called heat of the moment, the Thinker may volitionally select specific associations, perhaps more appropriate to the initial response. The snake is volitionally identified as of a harmless variety by searching the memory.Psychology (2 of 16) Next Page
