Mostly I played Wall Ball by myself. But occasionally I got some competition. It was meant to be a two player game although four players taking turns would also work. My only real competition was Jeff the artist who did the ceiling at the Cafe Commons. He was thin like me and only a little shorter. He was a bicycle messenger service rider down town. So he was in shape. We would have some pretty good longish volleys. We were pretty even, I only a little bit better than him. But that was because I played all the the time whereas he dropped around once in awhile.
And so I became a rabid 49er fan watching all their Sunday afternoon games which was tough because the only really good weather we had in SF was the autumn, so on beautiful gorgeous Sunday afternoons we would have to be inside rooting the 49ers on.
I have never been to a professional football game. A few baseball games and one basketball game I think. Above my economic status so I couldn't outdoors 49er games. It was the year of the catch when an unknown Joe Montana threw a touchdown pass to and unknown Dwight Clark in the the 1981 National Football League Championship Game against Dallas at Candlestick Park, SF on January 10, 1982 with 58 seconds left in the game to beat Dallas 28 to 27. Everyone was watching the game. Dallas was the premier team for a decade. The 49ers were coming from obscurity. I did not watch the game. I was out in the street playing WallBall with myself for the whole game or at least the last half. It made me to nervous to watch it.
