The big caper - heading home one night from Lake Geneva - we spotted a big fifty-nine Cadillac up a long drive way, a particularly ugly car, but the bullet tail lights were sometimes used in the customization of other types of cars.
I decided to steal them, and so with a Phillips screw driver and a pair of gloves, I on foot crept up the driveway in the dark and unscrewed the tail lights from the behemoth so only the wires were left dangling in uselessness. Lights were on in the house with an outside light, but far enough away I was unobtrusive. But what was the reason ? And again I put them in a drawer and never used them. But they were interesting to look at close up, red plastic bullets in a chrome setting.
And the next thing in that period, not just me but we stole cases of empty beer bottles stacked outside along the walls of bars and taverns. One of us would go in and buy a pack of cigarettes, keep the bar tender busy, while we outside in the parking lot, lit quite well, grabbed empty quart beer bottle cases, and threw them in the trunk and back seat. Then we would take them to a large chain grocery store and turn them in for deposit and get a dollar - dollar-fifty a case I think. And with this money we would buy beer after we found someone to buy it for us, a case of quart bottled Budweiser. Now this thievery had a practical side. We drank the profits of our larceny even as we were descending the moral ladder into the crypts of debauchery and decadent decay.
