However it is one thing to see movies, hear stories and read articles in the abstract, and another to get enmeshed in the machinations of the actual confidence game with real consequences, feelings, judgement guilt and self-criticism.
How a scenario such as a scam exactly happens to one is difficult to ascertain. They say the first principle of the con artist is that one can't cheat an honest man. Whether one produces such an event by simple will, or it simply happens because one has decided to be aware and take note of the proper circumstances, with an intention to act and take advantage of a great and possibly illegal deal is hard to say. Perhaps subconsciously, on the spur of the moment, one pursues some secret trail of decisions by intuition, unconsciously knowing it will lead to a specific experience correlating to a decision already made. Although if this subconscious power can lead one to one's desire, one could also assume that it would already
know the outcome even if it were negative.
I had never bought anything 'hot' before from someone I didn't know. Someone I knew yes once. I was not sure how it would work. I knew all about scams, but this was not a primary concern. If one is imaginative one may try to prepare ahead of time. What will the VCR look like? How would one recognize it? Will it be in a box or not? How do you know if it works? What rules should be set to minimize the chances of getting cheated? I decided I couldn't know. But my feeling was that I would proceed if the opportunity presented itself because I would be lucky; I would luck-out and come out with a great deal.
