Character Synthesis is categorizing, in terms of the basic concerns of types of Consequence, such as money, fame, health, education, power, force, spirituality or religion, labor or psychology, and the positions of Consequence like shaman or priest, soldier, millionaire, physician, lawyer, politician, king or queen. One creates symbolic characters that reflect and represent these characterizations. For each of these symbolic characters such as revolutionary, inventor, artist or writer, one can create an Interpretive Context from which the individual, who assumes this character identity, can interpret, speculate and conjecture on present reality and experience termed Extrapolation. This can be done in two ways. One can interpret or reference experience to a character most apropos to the circumstance, or one can utilize a specific character, and go into the world and interpret everything relative to that. The individual can also be a representative for concepts such as truth, love, knowledge, fairness, equality, justice in characterizations like philosopher, mother, seeker, revolutionary, law-maker or judge. A further refinement of the concept of Character Synthesis is to reduce a large number of characterizations into a lesser number, such as twelve or eventually even four primary characterizations. The ultimate goal, may be to reduce any number of characterizations to a single character, or an individual Symbolic Consciousness, as everybody is everybody or everything is everything.

Each of the characterizations represents a symbol for specific areas of awareness, Consciousness and concern or preoccupation. By playing these roles one will perhaps come to understand how the world works in terms of human relations and even in spiritual terms. One may gain a sense of Compassion. The individual may come to consider oneself to represent others, as the population of the planet as a whole or certain segments of it. The individual may consider oneself to be a representative for nature, that is not considered to be able to speak for itself. The individual may define themselves by attributes such as the composite of the entire living reality, the whole of the universe and timelessness, that may lead to a spirituality and a consciousness of the unification of all things.
