The judge was a regular wit and kept cracking jokes at the councillors. I laughed loudest because he was genuinely funny. How do you plead ? Not guilty my lawyer piped in. And the way this works is the prosecutors swim in gravy with plush offices and the use of the whole city apparatus, while the public defenders get a closet and are packed into the basement with the rats. With so many cases they can't do much of anything. It is standard practice nation wide, so prosecutors can get ahead on the backs of innocents like me.
So the charge of phone harassment - a woman I had never met and had no idea what she looked like or where she lived was dropped and to this day I do not know who the hell she was. Yes a crime of passion. Sonoma persuaded her that I was innocent and so she dropped the charges. I was off the hook. I got away with it, the passionless crime.
Exonerated, then I was vindicated at the Cafe Commons as well. I didn't know these people, but first they didn't want me to quit my art, but I had decided, it wasn't going to go anywhere and I was going to retire. So they took me outside to the back wood deck patio to play chess, as one of the waitresses was on the phone, talking to the mad phone caller. She knew his voice for he called there all the time. And she hung up the phone and came out back and said speaking to me, you can't be the mad phone caller - here you are playing chess and I was just talking to him on the phone.
