Alcohol, drug and addictions of every sort are attempted to be cured by use of therapy support groups. This involves mostly psychotherapy, wherein one thinks in certain ways assuming it is original to themselves and all sorts of negatives, worthlessness, low self-esteem and every kind of excuse to feel sorry for oneself with drugs. By talking to others one realizes that they are not original or alone and attempt change by comparison with others and with social support. Or it may involve a better state of stoned, as opposed to the seemingly mundane state experienced straight, which is composed of all those old associations. I have met a lot of people who took Jesus into their heart, and who have cured themselves of drug addiction. Of course life reaches rock bottom, and they need to substitute (associations) their addiction with something else, in this case Jesus means love.

Personally my own latest theory is the attempt at separating the ego, that interprets reality through the body as Internal Authority, from the identities which interpret reality in terms of personifications, created by the mind, usually objective oriented, and that represents External Authority.
