And the normal desert, of cake, pudding, pie or Jello, plus I would get a chocolate milk-shake all for free. So I had the big meal for lunch and the big meal again for dinner, that night cooked by my Mom.

My first day in army basic training, we got hit with two immunization shots in each arm. And then since my last name began with A, I pulled Kp or kitchen police that first day in basic training, and since I already knew how to work the dish washer, I did that again. But then I got sick, a bad reaction from the shots, and wasn't feeling very well when I finished that job up.

Meat loaf, mashed-potatoes, gravy, pie and chocolate milkshakes couldn't beat it. And I believe it took a full period. However my second or Junior year they gave me a new job or DRO they called it in the army - dinning room orderly, the job that everyone wanted. The way it worked was enlisted men E4 and down had to pull kitchen police by turns. The first person to the kitchen in the morning at five AM or thereabouts even before it opened, got first pick of job, and second and third to arrive like so. And the first standing outside in the cold at 5AM was for DRO the easiest job. Serve officers and clean up the dining room after meal.

So my second junior year high-school they gave me DRO. And it was primarily just clean up tables. But there was a bonus, since I had started smoking by this time. I would steal my mother's cigarettes Tareytons they were, and rip the filter off and smoke it unfiltered. They were sweet unlike Camel or Pall Mall which were salty.
