However where Monarchies are not considered a favorable form of government, the Elite Class, so as to maintain their power without the resentment of the lower classes, is often invisible, and the Upper Class, new rich, Literati and Glitterati, may serve that role.
The Elite Class already possesses the material assets as property, power and status, and thus for this class a Subtractive Base is necessary which transcends the purely ornamental. The emphasis is not so much on achievement, but upon correspondence to very complicated and sophisticated codes like speech, mannerisms, specific knowledge, and the use of things as poetry in ordinary speech.
Another Subtractive Base is the Extra Mundane Authority, which in terms of
Religious Materialism represents the progressive achievement of the attributes of God or Spiritual figures, grace, divinity, salvation, greater glory, or the afterlife. The Elite Class is institutional such as church, or cults and sects as Alternate Polarities, and are the top ranking officials of religious orders, especially when able to stand in for the direct authority of God.
Materialist religions in general tend to think of themselves as elite, especially the individual or the church as a whole, which believes themselves to have a special relationship to spiritual powers as opposed to others who do not. Materialist religion has a
Pseudo-conservative Propensity, wherein the individual must always assess value and consequence by subtraction, as from the perfection of heavenly or spiritual qualities. The achievement of material success, represents for some religions a sign of God's blessing. For some of the lower classes wherein upward mobility may not be a reality, the Extra Mundane Authority may be
the only available progressive goal. The Antithetical Matrix of the Extra Mundane Authority is the Devil and Hell.
